's listen. >> an update on the city's recovery from sandy as of this moment. i went to some of the areas in south brooklyn hit hardest by the storm. i did talk to some homeowners, went inside some of their houses and some had been severely damaged by sandy. the homeowners are still without power. some of them are still pumping water out of their basements, and they're confronting what they have lost and what to do next. the bottom line is the most important thing is to deal with those we have fatalities, help those families through the unimaginably tragic occurrence in their lives, something that they will not recover from, and then understand that the people who lost their houses or don't know where they will get food or water have some confidence that we are going to be there for them, that we are doing what we can as fast as we can consistent with making sure that we have no further loss of life, so for example in turning on power, if there's a chance turning on power is going to start a fire, we will err on the side of caution. if there is an issue the safety of one of our first resp

in the area impacted by sandy? that's the big question this morning. joe knows this very well, on my way in today, i had to take a taxicab for $125 because jeeves was this line to get gas, he was out of gas. >> i tried to take a car, my guy who i call -- he is not, but he nights as well be a former -- he has never failed. on on tuesday he came. and there have been snowstorms in the past where we've gone off the road, around, jack moved tractor trailers to get here's couldn't get gas. and so then i had to use -- i had a certain amount left in reserve. my gas tank is locked because people are siphoning now. >> it happened to one of our producers. >> there are people with guns. first 12 lines have to to do with troopers being there, you're not getting gas, people pulling guns, fights, frustrated. i saw something, and mill burn is a pretty of a through event community. and this one gas station finally got power, in addition to a five hour wait for cars on the other side, there were people, i don't know, somehow reminded of almost leak refugees. probably 120 people all with gas cans and three

hurricane sandy, but the potential demand coming from this nor'easter. add to that long-term policies and energy from president obama it'll make energy in interesting future. as you produce less and consume less, now the focus is on consumption. a look at oil today, slamming it today down three and a half dollars on a barrel of oil. that is an incredible move it even more incredible considering the fact oil rallied initially when the exit polls started to show traders might win the election. we are seeing prices get slammed. $0.10 per gallon, heating oil down 8.98. very interesting inventory report. huge demands, it sent lower on gasoline, 13% lower on diesel and that could get worse next week. back to you. lori: in the middle east more bullish for energy prices? >> it is, the focus is on the demand side of the equation. if europe is going to slow down, the u.s. will slow down, the middle east isn't going to pop up until something actually happens. a lot of supply even if we get a cut off of supply. lori: thank you. the dow down 270 points. we have to go to nicole petallides on the fl

without power two weeks after hurricane sandy slammed into the northeast. they're not the only ones suffering. folks in new york city usually head to coney island to line up for music park -- amusement park rides but now they're lining up just to get something to eat. jonathan hunt is there. jonathan, how is it going? >> reporter: extraordinary to see scenes like this in 20th century america. some people have just trying to get the basics of life. they're picking up canned goods over here. over here we have well, military-style meals ready to eat. gatorade bottles, cases of water. and everything is numbered. they're allowed to take two canned goods. one gatorade. up to a case of water and then there is laundry detergent further down there as well. a lot of these people live in the project buildings behind me, rick, where they have been struggling to get by for two weeks now since hurricane sandy hit. i have to say the spirit we found among most of the people here, while they acknowledge their difficulty they're all determined to push through. listen. >> we don't have any electricity

two weeks since superstorm sandy pummeled the northeast and drivers in the area are still dealing with gasoline shortages and rationing. unbelievable. adam shapiro is at a hess station in midtown manhattan with more on this. adam, i can not believe this is still going on. it's amazing. >> a lot of new york drivers can't believe it is still going on. real quick, look at something, first the line. this line stretches down to the 38th street, that is anywhere from 15 to 30 minute wait. look at the gas station. we haven't seen this kind of rationing since the 1970s or 1980s. this is even odd rationing. if your last number is odd number you fill up on an odd day. if the last number is letter not a number on odd day. even numbers tomorrow fill up. when we talk about what is actually happening here, because mayor bloomberg says the gas rationing could take several more weeks. they're still building infrastructure for delivery of infrastructure throughout the new jersey, new york area. the other issue is not only pipelines but the distribution centers where tankers fill up. some were dama
